What Is Hosting?
Web hosting appeared in the middle of 1990s. There were just a few web hosting companies at that time. Web hosting appeared as a function of internet service provider. In a couple of years the number of internet service providers increased up to several thousands in the US. The clients of web hosting services were usually small or medium companies that could not afford to have dedicated internet connection for their needs.
Afterwards large telecommunication companies entered the ISP industry and broadband connection began to prevail in both commercial and living buildings. Small internet service providers began to disappear and their place was taken by a few leading internet service providers.
At the same time internet kept growing and this fact has created the second wave of web hosting. New web hosting companies offered web hosting for much lower prices than internet service providers did. In addition, web hosting from internet service providers was customized for each client. Whereas web hosting providers came up with the idea of one hosting plan for all clients. And this helped to grow the number of clients from a few hundreds to thousands and thousands in a few years. Nowadays web hosting providers do not offer internet connection at all. It is hard to understand why first small internet service providers had not transformed themselves into web hosts in order to keep on a surface.
It is the matter of minutes for an experienced webmaster today to set up a new website with one of hosting providers. However, if you are new to this sphere, you may be confused by the number of various web hosting plans that are on the market.
It is clear that the size of the internet will continue to grow, that more and more people will create their own web sites. Web hosting companies will have to develop a hosting plan that will be clear and easy understandable to every person. Unless they expect all customers to get a deep understanding of operating systems, programming languages and web servers classification. A new web hosting plan is supposed to be recognized by what it allows to do for customers rather than by complicated technical words.
The entire web hosting industry keeps growing along with the global economy and IT industry in particular. It might be too early to see the third wave of web hosting coming up though, as Bruce Zhang assumes. The first and the second waves of web hosting were pushed by the beginning of a new economical cycle. Therefore, we should expect the same thing about the third wave of web hosting. If world economy keeps growing further, the third wave of web hosting will not make us wait for it to come.
Before you purchase any website hosting, you need to go through the web host review routine. Of course you need to be realistic and understand that now every web host review will be unbiased. But if you go through the nice number of web host review sites – you will see the true picture.
